Instagram has expanded its creator subscription program, introducing new ways for users on the platform to generate an income. Through the program, which launched in January, Instagram is now allowing creators to lock even more of their content behind a paywall.
The platform’s Subscriptions feature previously only applied to Lives, Stories and Badges. Creators determine a set monthly subscription cost of up to $100 USD maximum and followers sign up to subscribe via a button on their profile.
Subscriptions are now also applicable to Reels, Posts, Chats and a special subscriber-exclusive homepage. CEO Adam Mosseri announced the update in a video posted to social media.
Subscriptions are a great way for creators to have a predictable income and for fans to get exclusive content from creators that they love,”

Mosseri said tens of thousands of Instagram creators have accessed the subscription program since it debuted earlier this year.
Feed posts will show a purple badge in the corner to indicate that only subscribers can view them. As for the chat option, creators can create group DMs of up to 30 of their subscribers that will automatically end after 24 hours.
Subscribers will be able to head to a separate homepage from the creator’s feed, where all subscriber-only content will be located.
