Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium as they progressed to the round of 16 in the Carabao cup.
Goals from Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez in the 2nd half were enough to give the home side a well deserved victory. Raheem Sterling was welcomed back with a standing ovation by the home side as he came on for hakim Ziyech in the 68th minute.
Elsewhere Arsenal crashed out in a shock 3-1 loss to Brighton. Arteta’s side had taken the lead through Eddie Nketiah but Brighton responded after just 7 minutes and went on to win the game. Brighton have now qualified for the round of 16 for 3 times in a row.
Spurs had a night to forget as they lost 2-0 while away to Nottingham Forest in a match where they were expected to win. Harry Kane, who has started all 21 of Tottenham’s matches this season, had to be substituted after about an hour due to fatigue.
There were plenty of penalties as Liverpool, Blackburn who knocked out West Ham and Newcastle all progressed on penalties.
Manchester United will be looking to get the better of Aston Villa who thrashed them 3-1 last weekend when they meet tonight at Old Trafford.
The draw for the next round will take place today night.
