The Flash, Warner Bros.’ superhero film starring Ezra Miller, has become the biggest box office failure in the history of superhero movies, just three weeks after its theatrical release.
Despite facing controversies and changes in Warner Bros. and DC’s strategy, the film managed to overcome production troubles and make its way to the big screen. However, it disappointed at the box office, earning only $55 million USD in its debut weekend.
The film experienced a significant decline in box office returns, with a 72.5% drop in its second week, marking the worst decline in DC history.
With a reported budget of $220 million USD, plus an additional $150 million USD for promotion, The Flash’s poor performance is expected to result in a staggering loss of over $200 million USD for Warner Bros., making it the largest financial setback suffered by a studio for a superhero film.
By its third week, the film’s earnings further declined to just $5.23 million USD, bringing its domestic total to a mere $99 million USD.
The third week witnessed a 62.5% decrease in revenue compared to the already declining second week.
The Flash now surpasses Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which was previously estimated to incur a loss of $150 million USD.
