Sex work is work, well at least according to sex workers. In a recent Tweet shared by activist and photojournalist Boniface Mwangi, a harassed lady expressed her frustration from a client.
She shares how she had had an agreement with a client on how much she should be remunerated after spending the night with him only for the crude man to end up assaulting her.
He declined to pay his dues.
This sparked a debate on how much one should pay for a night of pleasure. Well, sex work should not be criminalized as long as it is consensual, others argued.
In most African countries e.g. in South Africa, assaulted sex workers shy away from reporting rape, violence or even assault that may occur during their sexual engagements. They fear stigmatization and in most cases, no help is offered even by the authorities.
