R &B star R Kelly has always had fans who dismiss his criminal accusations. Most continue to consume his music even after his conviction. The singer has been experiencing a spike in sales after his September 27th verdict.
R Kelly is currently awaiting sentencing and could end up spending decades in prison for racketeering, kidnapping, and sexual exploitation.
Album sales have been shooting up since the verdict. R. Kelly’s album sales shot up 517% following his guilty verdict. The week following his conviction, his on-demand audio streams and video streams were up by over 20%. His music has also been heavily streamed in 2021.
Even after YouTube removed two R Kelly related channels for “violating creator responsibility guidelines”, his music is still available on other streaming platforms e.g., Tidal and Apple Music.
It is not unusual for musical artists’ music to surge in popularity when they’re embroiled in controversy.
