Instagram is now demanding that users provide their correct birth date information. This is in an effort to provide a safe platform for underage users. It will also prevent adults from interacting with people under 18 years.
As an Instagram user you have been asked to fill in your birthday information in the past during your account set up.
This latest update and tough measures are designed to get even those with older accounts to correctly update this information. According to Instagram Blog, these changes will help in providing the right experiences to all age groups.
“We’ve been clear that we want to do more to create safer, more private experiences for young people,” Instagram explained. “To do that we need to know how old everybody is on Instagram, so we’ve started asking people to share their birthday with us if they haven’t shared it previously.”
For those who think that they will get away with not giving their correct age or birthdate, Instagram will be closely monitoring you.
“We recognize some people may give us the wrong birthday, and we’re developing new systems to address this”, the firm added. “We’re using artificial intelligence to estimate how old people are based on things like ‘Happy Birthday’ posts. In the future, if someone tells us they’re above a certain age, and our technology tells us otherwise, we’ll show them a menu of options to verify their age“,INSTAGRAM BLOG.
