When he finds himself running low on inspiration for his second book, a gloomy novelist agrees to write a memoir for a dying man. What starts out as a simple story swiftly pulls this unsuspecting writer into his subject’s bloodstained past.

In this French series, a dying man’s last wish is to tell his story. A memoir- which wrecks many lives, including his son’s who- (the author he sources to write the memoir) ends up becoming a victim of his past.
Filmed in retro colors to take us to the past, and an acceptable photography for the contemporary scenes, it sets the ambiance well. The cast is perfect. The screenplay is engaging, a French Bonnie and Clyde. Alternating between the present and the decades past (late 60’s and 70’s), this six part series tells various stories, which the viewer is easily able to follow. It’s engaging and binge worthy.
Why would a childless old man, living alone want his legacy to be his life story? A story that turns out to include quite a few murders. The man writing the book is Adrien Winckler. A 40-year-old struggling writer, who just cannot seem to get a handle on his second book.
The man in this Netflix series tells a story, a dark past, a ride or die relationship with his past lover. The storyline crosses the line between fiction and reality- and yes the ‘wtf’ moments are bountiful.
Their first crime is killing two men. The first man’s lust and urge to bust a nut is the cause of his death & the second man , his cousin- only mistake is witnessing the crime.
This twisted thriller does not fill you in on who is the victim or survivor in the first few episodes. So twisted that every revelation leaves you at the edge of your seat.
Domestic violence, rape and the thrill of killing which frankly is depicted in this series comes across as far fetched, meaning; why would you enjoy seducing a myriad of men & enjoy killing all of them after they want the cookie? Pretentious. Dark & twisted. Not to mention that all the murders are unaccounted for.
Graphic scenes of murder. More scenes of sexual violence. Rough sex and a couple that enjoys having orgasms right on the scene after they kill their targets. If you are an ardent fan of true crime & murder, then ‘Black Butterflies’ is a must watch.
