Daniel Kaluuya’s character W’Kabi did not return for the second installment of Black Panther.
The first installment of Black Panther was released in 2018. The film starred the late Chadwick Boseman who played T’Challa, Lupita Nyong’o and others. The Marvel superhero film was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
W’Kabi is the husband of Danai Gurira’s Dora Milaje leader, Okoye, and security head of the Border Tribe, who eventually betray T’Challa (Boseman) and the rest of Wakanda when they side with Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) to fight for his right to reign over the African nation.
Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler has shared why Daniel Kaluuya’s character is missing in the 2nd installment.
We had earlier reported that Kaluuya’s return was not possible due to his previous commitment to Jordan Peele‘s upcoming horror, Nope, which was also in production & set for release this year.
Yeah, he’s basically banished, but still in Wakanda’s borders.
Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler
Yeah, does that make sense? So, there’s one line [in Wakanda Forever] that refers to him still being alive.”
His banishment was a direct result of his actions when he was skeptical of king T’Challa’s rule.
