Avatar 2 is officially the fourth highest grossing film in history

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is officially the fourth highest-grossing film in history.

According to reports, the sci-fi sequel has earned a whopping $2.075 billion USD at the global box office. It has surpassed The Force Awakens‘ $2.064 billion USD run in 2015.

This effectively makes Cameron the director of three of the four highest-grossing movies of all time, thanks to the original Avatar’s earnings of $2.92 billion USD and Titanic’s $2.2 billion USD earnings; the only title not helmed by Cameron is Avengers: Endgame with $2.79 billion USD.

Avatar: The Way of Water was also recently nominated for best picture, production design, sound and visual effects at the 2023 Academy Awards.
