Media personality Ciru Muriuki has candidly shared her experience of being laid off from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for the first time.
In a social media update, Muriuki revealed that she was among the employees affected by a recent round of retrenchment at the international media house.
I was laid off, in other words, I was retrenched.
I was working at this large international media house for 5 years and last year they let the large staff know that they wanted to take a different direction and wanted to do a digital-first approach and as a result some roles with be made redundant.

Acknowledging the tough economic times, Muriuki expressed her intention to encourage others who might be going through similar situations.
She emphasized that there is no shame in acknowledging job loss and highlighted the possibility of thriving even after losing full-time employment.
One of the reasons why I have wanted to talk about this is because people think there is some kind of shame in acknowledging that you have lost your job.
