Shonda Rhimes has shed light on her choice to part ways with ABC.
She revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, in a cover story that her departure was influenced by prolonged disputes with the Disney-affiliated network over matters concerning creative direction, financial resources, and the terms of a new long-term contract.
The turning point for her came when she encountered resistance while requesting an extra all-inclusive pass to Disneyland.
Rhimes clarified that she had received a pass for her own use as part of her work for the company, which, it’s reported, has generated over $2 billion in revenue for Disney over the years.
Now, her pass was non-transferable and that she had previously negotiated an additional one for her nanny.
However, when she sought a pass for her sister, who was accompanying one of Rhimes’ daughters to the park, she faced opposition before eventually receiving the extra pass.
Upon arrival at the park, Rhimes and her family discovered that only one of their passes was functional.
She then reached out to a high-ranking executive to address the issue, who questioned her,
Don’t you have enough?”
After issues with ABC for a while, that marked the turning point.
Rhimes highly-rated series “Scandal,” which became a trailblazer in 2013 as the highest-rated scripted drama among Black Americans, would later make a groundbreaking transition to Netflix in 2017.
The issue has sparked extensive discussions on social media.
