Sofia Boutella has responded to the harsh criticism surrounding the debut of Rebel Moon.
Speaking with Vulture, the Kingsman actress expressed how she initially believed she was prepared to handle negative feedback, only to find herself deeply impacted by the critiques directed at the film.
She stated,
I’m just gonna be honest about it. I feel like I’m carrying it for everybody that cared so much about this project, and that’s what affected me.”
Not the way I look. If anything, I’ve been pretty lucky, and people like my work in it, but the movie was criticized.”
Despite the anticipation surrounding Zack Snyder’s return, the film received a disappointing critic approval rating of only 21% on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release.
She further explained,
It really affected me for all of those who put so much heart, tears, and sweat in this project,”
It’s hard to see something being demolished to that extent.
I’m proud to have been part of it, and if there is no more Rebel Moon, it will be a very important part of my life that I will defend forever.”

Rotten Tomatoes critics
In the end, Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire is ridiculous, unoriginal, and stereotypical. But also? There is a lot of fun to be had, especially if someone can Jedi mindtrick you into forgetting you knew anything about Star Wars.
This 135-minute overlong slog is a chaotic compilation of so many better sci-fi fantasy franchises… not sure why people even compliment the visuals as it’s visually garish + ugly.
An excruciating bore….A tedious slog through an avalanche of genre clichés, made worse by an air of pretentiousness and ponderous self-importance.
There isn’t enough slow-motion in the world to make up for the copy/paste narrative, lame characters, awful pacing and miserable final act. What a waste of time.
The story is a derivative mess that feels as though it was assembled from bits of plot picked off the carcasses of other, better films, and glued together with brain-numbing, pace-killing chunks of exposition.
Rebel Moon is a bad film that makes other bad films look better.
