The Season 6 finale of “The Chi,” titled “Thanksgiving,” delivered an intense, emotional, and surprising conclusion to the season.
At the start of the episode, it was all about food, family, and gratitude.
However, by the end, we were left reeling from the departure of three major characters, including two shocking deaths. No one saw this coming.
The episode was a 44-minute journey that marked significant changes for the show.
Executive producers had hinted at major developments earlier in the season, but the finale truly delivered on the drama.
By the time the credits rolled, we had to say goodbye to Curtiss Cook’s Otis “Douda” Perry, Iman Shumpert’s Rob, and Tyla Abercrumbie’s Nina.
Douda’s death was a climactic end to his season-long power struggle with Alicia, played by Lynn Whitfield.
In a twist, Douda was ultimately killed by his former henchman, Nuck, portrayed by Cortez Smith.
Nuck’s announcement to Douda’s staff that he was taking over was met with resistance by Rob, leading to Rob’s tragic murder.
Nuck brutally shot Rob (Iman Shumpert) multiple times, then callously left his body on his mother’s doorstep for Alicia to find; and yes, she did find her son’s body wrapped in polythene outside their home. This was the last scene of the episode.
Rob’s unexpected death will be a significant blow, especially for Tiff (Hannah Hall), who had found happiness in her relationship with him. With Rob gone, Tiff’s storyline in Season 7 is sure to take another turn.
In addition to these deaths, Nina left “The Chi.” Throughout the series, her character has often been criticized as “the worst mother” on the show.
Nina is all set to move out of town with her girlfriend LaPorsha, played by Da Brat.
The finale also introduced a new character, played by Rotimi from “Power.”
Although his role was introduced in a church setting, there’s a sense that his character may bring trouble in the future.
Meanwhile, Emmett, played by Jacob Latimore, continued to face his own challenges, with Kiesha expecting a child by him. Despite already having three baby mamas, he continues to expand his family.
Douda’s death was a moment most of us were waiting for, but the question of who would finally take him out kept us guessing until the very end.
Jake and Jemma’s relationship has been a standout highlight of the season. Fans of the series will understand why.
With these dramatic exits and new characters joining the fray, “The Chi” is set for an even more dramatic Season 7. Yes please.
