The Color Purple is A musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the life-long struggles of an African-American woman living in the south during the early 1900s.
The film is directed by Blitz Bazawule and produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, and Quincy Jones.
It features a star-studded cast including Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Fantasia Barrino.
Halle Bailey takes on the role of Nettie, while Phylicia Mpasi portrays Celie, two sisters who find themselves trapped in an unfavorable position.
Together, they yearn for a better life that would allow them to pursue their dreams and find a sense of belonging.
The screenplay is by Marcus Gardley.
The film is set to be released internationally on January 18, 2024.
