Denzel Washington missed out on an opportunity to join the cast of a movie that eventually shattered an eight-year-old box office record after declining a role in the renowned Fast & Furious franchise.
According to reports from Deadline, Denzel was approached for a part in Furious 7 in 2013, with producer Vin Diesel and director James Wan expressing interest in having The Equalizer star on board.
Although the specific role offered to Denzel remains undisclosed, speculation suggests it could have been the character Mr. Nobody, later portrayed by Kurt Russell in the film.
Regrettably, Denzel’s decision to decline the role not only cost him the opportunity but also a guaranteed chance to be part of a film that would set a new box office record.
Furious 7 marked a significant milestone for the franchise, becoming the first Fast & Furious movie to gross over one billion dollars; becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises in its more than 20-year history!
