Disney has cast 17-year-old Australian actress Catherine Laga’aia as the lead in the upcoming live-action remake of “Moana.”
Laga’aia will portray the adventurous teenager alongside Dwayne Johnson, returning as the demigod Maui.
Filming for the live-action adaptation begins this year, with a theatrical release scheduled for July 10, 2026.
The cast also includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
Director Thomas Kail expressed excitement about the casting and looks forward to filming with the ensemble.

together.
The 2016 release of “Moana” generated around $644 million in global box office revenue.
